Enabling this TSA feature could save you hours in airport security lines
(NEXSTAR) – When I had to catch a flight at Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Tuesday morning, the airport’s official website said getting through the main security line would take nearly two hours. I got through in under five minutes.
I have a new biometric TSA PreCheck feature to thank for my good fortune as security lines at airports nationwide have grown unbearably long. A partial government shutdown, winter weather and spring break all share the blame from making TSA lines at some airports trail outside the terminal.
Even the typically expedited lines for TSA PreCheck or CLEAR – two services you have to enroll in and pay for – have started to grow long.
But more than 60 airports have rolled out a new type of PreCheck, called Touchless ID, that can make getting through security even faster. Travelers eligible to use Touchless ID don’t need to pull out a boarding pass or ID. Instead, they walk up to a camera that scans their face and gives them a green light to walk through the security checkpoint.
