Are you owed money? Check these 11 settlements
(NEXSTAR) – In times like these, who wouldn’t take a little extra cash? Class action settlement funds can be one way to earn a few easy dollars – though we wouldn’t exactly call it a “quick” buck.
Many of these settlements are years in the making, as lawsuits are filed and work their way through the legal system. What we often end up with is a multi-million dollar settlement fund from which anyone who is a member of the “class” (which could mean anything from all Facebook users to Trader Joe’s customers to people who brush with Tom’s toothpaste) can file a claim for a piece.
Through the process, the size of the fund whittles down. First off, legal and administrative fees are taken off the top. Whatever is left is split among the number of people who filed valid claims. In some cases class members can get hundreds of dollars, and in other cases it ends up being less than $5.
On the bright side, filing for a piece of class action settlement funds is usually pretty easy. It can typically be done online in a couple minutes, though sometimes you’ll need to provide proof of purchase.
Here are some open settlement funds you may qualify for.
