(NEXSTAR) – President Trump, as well as several top Republicans, are participating in a marathon reading of the Bible, which started on Saturday.
As part of the “America Reads the Bible” event, which is being livestreamed from the Museum of the Bible in Washington and other locations, each participant reads a passage aloud. A recording of Trump reading his passage from the Oval Office is set to be streamed on Tuesday evening.
The Bible is “indelibly woven into our national identity and way of life,” Trump said in a statement commemorating the event. The statement cited historical figures such as the Puritan leader John Winthrop as “imploring his fellow Christian settlers to stand as a beacon of faith for all the world to see.”
Trump’s passage is 2 Chronicles 7:11-22, which is set during King Solomon’s dedication of the temple in ancient Jerusalem. In it, God promises forgiveness if a future generation rebels, then repents.
The full passage, as it appears in Bible.com’s King James Version, is below:

And the Lord appeared to Solomon by night, and said unto him, I have heard thy prayer, and have chosen this place to myself for an house of sacrifice. If I shut up heaven that there be no rain, or if I command the locusts to devour the land, or if I send pestilence among my people; if my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land. Now mine eyes shall be open, and mine ears attent unto the prayer that is made in this place. For now have I chosen and sanctified this house, that my name may be there for ever: and mine eyes and mine heart shall be there........
