Time for a new approach

Here’s a radical idea.

Yesterday, we pointed out that the province is careening towards a general election.

With Premier Dwight Ball leaving the job, his successor is required to hold a provincial election within 12 months of landing the post.

It may even happen sooner with the precarious situation the governing Liberals are in: a lame-duck premier waiting to be replaced, a minority government and, on top of all that, a Liberal MHA suspended for the first two weeks of the House of Assembly’s next session.

And that means, as we pointed out yesterday, “It has just turned into an election budget — meaning that fiscal restraint is likely to get tossed under the wheels of the campaign bus in short order … a bad situation for a province struggling with runaway debt and a massive........
