Maharashtra Local Body Election Results 2025 LIVE: The BJP has emerged as the largest party in the Maharashtra municipal council and nagar panchayat elections, opening a wide lead over its Mahayuti allies, the Shiv Sena and the NCP, as well as the Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi.
According to early results, the BJP was ahead in 127 seats, while the Shiv Sena led in 53 and the NCP in 32. Collectively, the ruling Mahayuti alliance secured leads in more than 200 seats across the state.
The Opposition Maha Vikas Aghadi recorded a comparatively weaker showing, leading in 53 municipal councils and nagar panchayats. Within the alliance, the Congress was ahead in 36 seats, the Shiv Sena (UBT) in nine and the Sharad Pawar-led NCP (SP) in eight, highlighting the opposition’s struggles in the civic polls.
The polling was held in two phases on December 2 and December 20.

Leaders of the Mahayuti alliance, including Devendra Fadnavis, Eknath Shinde and Ajit Pawar, have been actively campaigning across Maharashtra. However, from the Opposition, only the Congress has been seen campaigning on a large scale.
Within the Mahayuti, the BJP and the Shiv Sena have put up rival candidates in several districts such as Sindhudurg, Satara, Dharashiv, Palghar and Thane. In contrast, the two rival NCP groups led by Ajit Pawar and Sharad Pawar have come together in Kolhapur.
In Vidarbha, which is Fadnavis’s strong region, the BJP and Congress are mainly fighting each other. The BJP is contesting all 27 cities there, while Congress is contesting 22, leading to direct contests in 18 cities.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Sunday thanked the people of Maharashtra for backing the BJP and the Mahayuti alliance in the local body elections, saying the results reflected public confidence in people-centric development.
In a post on X, Modi said Maharashtra had “stood firmly with development” by supporting the BJP and the Mahayuti in the municipal council and nagar panchayat polls. He said the mandate demonstrated trust in the alliance’s vision and pledged continued efforts to meet the aspirations of citizens across the state.
The prime minister also congratulated BJP and Mahayuti office bearers, crediting their grassroots efforts for the electoral performance.
With the State Election Commission yet to issue an official announcement, the ruling Mahayuti alliance on Sunday claimed a clear lead, saying early trends indicated a strong mandate in its favour across municipal councils and local bodies.
Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde on Sunday hailed the performance of the ruling Mahayuti alliance in the local body elections, saying the results indicated continued public support for the alliance in upcoming municipal polls.
Speaking to reporters after the declaration of results, Shinde congratulated voters and party workers, noting that the Mahayuti had earlier succeeded in the Lok Sabha, Legislative Assembly and municipal corporation elections. “There are clear indications that the Mahayuti alliance will also be successful in the forthcoming municipal elections,” he said.
Shinde said the Bharatiya Janata Party had secured a “century” of wins, while the Shiv Sena had achieved a “half-century” in the local polls.
