The counterterrorism template was amended significantly in 2025 through drone operations. The drone technology has not only enhanced the reach of LEAs but has also transformed the response of military and paramilitary forces in selective regions of the country. This, however, is attached with pitfalls and potential operational vulnerabilities as well. Most importantly, the drones are also gradually becoming available to the hands of smugglers and criminals. The available data suggests that nearly two dozen attacks have been conducted by LEAs across K-P mainly for determining positions and movements of the militants in the border districts with Punjab.
Another problem which has been persisting for a while now is how to make drones a precision tool of action. The collateral damage can cause public alienation, which may further erode public confidence in support of LEAs in the region.
