Malaysian Court Rejects Former PM Najib’s House Arrest Bid |
The Kuala Lumpur High Court has dismissed jailed former Malaysian Prime Minister Najib Razak’s bid to serve the remainder of his sentence for corruption at his home, ruling that a royal document allowing the move was invalid.
Najib, who who has been imprisoned since August 2022 for his role in the multibillion-dollar 1MDB corruption scandal, has brought legal action aiming to compel Malaysian authorities to confirm and execute a royal “addendum order” that he claims was issued last year as part of a pardon by Sultan Abdullah Ahmad Shah of Pahang, the country’s then-king. He said the order entitled him to serve the remainder of his sentence at home, but had been deliberately ignored or concealed by the authorities.
