RON HART: SCOTUS Interruptus — Supreme Court Repubs Remain Intellectually Honest

The Supreme Court struck down a significant portion of President Donald Trump’s global tariff plan, ruling that the power to impose taxes lies with Congress. Many Republicans greeted the Friday morning decision with measured statements.
Some, like me, even praised it. It is important that the Supreme Court be intellectually honest and uphold the Constitution. Trump can whine, but those justices can rule as they see fit. A seat on the Supreme Court is a lifetime political appointment in Washington, D.C., much like being married to Bill Clinton.
In the 6-3 decision, the court determined that the President overstepped his authority by using the International Emergency Economic Powers Act (IEEPA) of 1977 to impose tariffs.
