Being a Texan who can trace her lineage to before it was even a state, going to the Texas State Fair every year as a child was a way of life. Now, thanks to the Democrat control of Dallas and feckless Republicans, it’s no longer a safe, fun place to take children.
Growing up, Texas private and public schools were given free tickets to the Texas State Fair to hand out to students. Kids got a day off from school to enjoy carnival rides, games, exotic exhibits, freshly squeezed lemonade and the always delicious Fletcher’s corndog with their families. Every fall, from the moment the gates opened until they closed, families would line up in front of the fair’s mascot, Big Tex, to take their picture. It was a quintessential part of Texas heritage but has now become a sad reminder of everything we’ve lost.
