Ron DeSantis is slowly reemerging into the national spotlight and has found a perfect chink in President Donald Trump’s armor.
As we all know, DeSantis rose to national prominence during the COVID-19 pandemic. He became something of a folk hero among conservatives after he refused to turn Florida into a lockdown dystopia, unlike New York, some of whose residents fled south to dodge restrictions, taxes, and the high cost of living. He also helped turn Dr. Anthony Fauci into public enemy number one, while embracing common-sense policies when the time came for vaccinations.
With all this momentum from COVID, he fancied himself presidential material in the 2024 GOP primary, though he ultimately failed. DeSantis’s star had faded, maybe for good.
But he is now making national headlines once again, this time over his AI skepticism instead of Fauci’s draconian mask mandates.
