STEVE FINAN: Dundonians snubbing local coffee shops for ‘big boys’ should be ashamed
I couldn’t agree more with Chris Heather’s Instagram post last week, asking Dundee coffee drinkers to visit his Waterfront van rather than the newly-opened Starbucks a few yards away at the railway station.
As Chris points out, by supporting the “big boys” you are only further enriching their remote – and already fabulously rich – owners.
Starbucks was founded in Seattle and has 33,800 coffee shops worldwide.
Costa is owned by Coca-Cola and has 4,200 outlets, but more in Britain than Starbucks.
Caffe Nero has more than 1,000 shops in 11 countries. Their HQ is in London.
All three are multi-billion-dollar operations which suck away your money into the great corporate nowhere.
If you support a local coffee shop, the owners will spend their profits here. The money would circulate........
