If you’re a Dundonian who thinks the mismanagement of Dundee University doesn’t concern you, think again.

The scale of job losses means too many people in and around the city will know family or friends – staff and students – and local businesses who have been adversely affected.

Even if you’re not in that unfortunate situation, there are further negative consequences that may yet impact on you.

The city hosts a large student body of 25,000-plus and a contributory element of Dundee’s ongoing regeneration is the success of both Dundee and Abertay universities.

Slowly but surely the city has rebuilt its reputation and is now one of the best places for under-35s to live due to its vibrant culture, waterfront regeneration and affordability.

Success breeds success, so the university’s struggles are as welcome as a kick in the Bonar Halls as far as the city’s prospects are concerned.
