OK, I’ll admit it: I got my hopes up that this time Scotland would make history at the World Cup by getting out of the group stages.

I may have jinxed it, folks, my bad.

I got caught in the hype about the Tartan Army winning hearts and minds in Boston, the win over Haiti and the perpetual Scottish faith that eventually, no matter what, it will all come good for us.

But, as is typical, the Scotland team has not made it easy on themselves, so as I am writing this, we are on the edges of our seats waiting to find out if we will eek through to the knockout stages as part of this third-place set-up.

Part of me wonders if this has just become part of the process for our national squad – we need the drama and the suspense to keep us energised!

Not so great for my health, according to my Fitbit, during the Brazil game, though.

It was giving me warnings about my heart rate, and the cats fled after the second (although disallowed) goal went past Angus Gunn.
