Support House more than a refuge, a place to open your heart

A modest two-story home, looking no younger than 75 years old, has external walls of reddish-brown galvanized iron. On the second floor, hanging laundry sways in the breeze.

A tiny signboard by the front door says "Support House."

This is a shelter for children run by Michiyo Yamamoto, 58, in Kanazawa, Ishikawa Prefecture.

Residents include a junior high school boy who fled from his physically abusive older brother, and a teenage girl who cannot stop mutilating herself.
