Despite early death, poet’s dream home built 65 years later

Michizo Tachihara (1914-1939), a poet of the early Showa Era (1926-1989), also had a promising future as an architect. He had been a brilliant student of architecture at Tokyo Imperial University (present-day University of Tokyo).

His dream was to build a small weekend cottage for himself. A poem he penned at the time went to this effect: "What I dreamed of was one kind of happiness/ What I wished for was one kind of love."

He found a potential construction site by a marsh in present-day Minami Ward in the city of Saitama. He gave the name of "Haus Hyazinth" (Hyacinth house) to his dream cottage, and........
