EDITORIAL: New party must explain changes in policy stances to form alliance
To counter Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi’s administration's push for radical reform with a strong conservative bent, there might be a need to form a major entity by disregarding minor differences.
But an effort is needed to sufficiently explain and gain an understanding of the conversion of basic policy stances.
It remains to be seen to what extent the new party can spread its arguments among voters given the extremely tight election schedule.
The Centrist Reform Alliance, established by the Constitutional Democratic Party of Japan and Komeito, announced its platform and basic policies.
Its core political slogan is placing priority on people leading their daily lives on the grounds that the current times require a centrist party that emphasizes dialogue and inclusion.
Some of its policy positions clearly differ from the Takaichi administration, such as the introduction of a system to allow married couples to use different surnames, stronger........
