Why Samsung had to delay the Galaxy Fold

Samsung should be commended for its decision to listen to early feedback and not release its Samsung Galaxy Fold, as doing so is not only in the best interest of its business but will, ultimately, be best for consumers.

Cancelling the launch of the foldable phone less than a week out must be very painful for Samsung, which so wanted to be early to market in this new category. But, to adapt a mantra much repeated in the video game world, a delayed phone will eventually be good, but a rushed phone is bad forever. Holding it back was the right decision.


The Galaxy Fold has shown signs of insecurity from the start. Our first glimpse of it was a split-second silhouette at the end of a conference, and even when it was fully unveiled all we had to go on was pictures and spec sheets. At the time, our correspondent noted how unwilling Samsung was to let any members of the press handle or even look closely at the device.
