Google's ban will take time before it affects your Huawei phone

The implications for Australian consumers from Google's dramatic pulling of the rug from under Huawei's phones will take some time to become clear.

The US government placed Huawei on a trade blacklist last week and Google confirmed on Monday that it would terminate many of its agreements with the company.

The order means Huawei will no longer be able to have its devices certified to use Google's proprietary services. In effect it will have its license to access Google's Play services revoked.

That means new Huawei handsets will not be able to access the Google Play store or work with many of Google's own apps including Gmail and Maps.

Huawei may still access software and technology that falls under open source........
