Labor needs to start listening to voters, and act now

The Age this week published the results of two surveys conducted in May and June that should be shaking the foundations of the Allan government. If they have not, then the party and Premier Jacinta Allan are not listening.
The polls by Resolve Political Monitor revealed that the broader surge for One Nation was also occurring in Victoria. Taking the two surveys together, One Nation’s primary support rose 3 percentage points since the previous poll to 24 per cent, Labor’s dropped 1 point to 26 per cent and the Coalition’s was down 3 points to also be at 26 per cent.
In May, One Nation’s support was 20 per cent. Last week, in the second survey, it was 28 per cent, surpassing that of the other parties. On these figures, party strategists believe the result of November’s poll could be a hung parliament, which is remarkable given that at present Labor has almost twice the seats the opposition has.
Allan, whose approval rating is minus 35, must act on the grievance issues that Victorians see and by which they are affected.
