Spoons of wood, high hopes and chances lost... the final round storylines

There will be the obvious winners and losers from the final round of the 2019 NRL season. Some teams will fall short of the top four and have to shoot for the impossible if they want to scramble to a premiership.

Others will miss the finals completely, with their fans then attempting to work out which of the remaining participants they despise the least. A few will just be glad it's all over and embark on a super-chill, entirely non-controversial Mildy Agitated Monday in a controlled environment monitored by extremely sober club officials.

But there are always intriguing stories as the regular season comes to a close, as much as near the tail of the ladder as the head.

There are clear finals implications when these sides meet in the 6pm game on Friday. Before the round (and dependent on the Roosters-Rabbitohs result), Manly had hopes of sliding into the top four, while the Eels could toggle between fifth and six. Of more intrigue is whether........
