What the Qantas Frequent Flyer changes mean for you

At first glance, the changes Qantas unveiled to its Frequent Flyer program on Thursday sound positive. But, scratch below the surface, and these changes will leave many rusted on customers unhappy.

Qantas spared no expense at the glamourous announcement, booking out the SCG and rolling out chief executive Alan Joyce to reveal the significant amendments to the airline's loyalty program.

The headline changes include one million extra reward seats available (a 25 per cent boost), lower taxes for international flights (up to 50 per cent cheaper), and a 15 per cent hike in the redemption cost for premium seats. The changes will mostly affect international flights, with domestic redemption remaining largely unchanged.
