Writing wrongs: Grammar and punctuation crucial for clarity at work

Is there room for upholding convention in the written word at work?Credit:Bulent Ince

QUESTION:

Yesterday a colleague (who thought I couldn’t hear them) called me a “pendant”. They meant “pedant”.

It was in response to, what I thought was, some tactful advice I offered days earlier on their email style, and how punctuation and capital letters made prose easier to read. (I deliberately didn’t mention their spelling, use of emojis and decision to address the CEO as “a legendary female”.)

Do I need to accept that language and communication styles change over time and that intervention is, indeed, pedantry or is there still room for upholding convention in the written word?
