Reaching breaking point on overused expression

Mine is a perplexing issue. Do I risk appearing like some old-fashioned ‘stick in the mud’ or do I suffer in silence - an expression that drives me nuts and which is not clear?

“I reached out to...”

Have people gone mad? Have they forgotten “I phoned”, “I called”, “I contacted”, “I dropped in”?

To counter this corporate forgetfulness, whenever I receive an email with the “reach out” expression, I reply along the lines: “Diana Ross was the only one to reach out and I guess you don’t wanna hold my hand but we can make the world a better place with clearer expression”. I also include a link for the Diana Ross YouTube clip Reach Out and Touch (Somebody's Hand).

So, Jonathan, am I some sort of fuddy duddy or should I suck it up........
