Moment of truth arrives for Australia after year of soul searching

Bristol: For more than 12 months, Cricket Australia and those involved with its primary money spinner, the men's international side, have been building to this point.

Through the dramatic fall-out from the events of Cape Town, including the seismic casualty rate at CA headquarters, to the damning Longstaff report, to a new culture which has swept through the Test and short-form programs under new coach Justin Langer, and through the reintroduction of Steve Smith and David Warner into the side, the focus - when all was said and done - was on having everything in order come the opening game of the World Cup.

Well, that point has arrived, and the Australians are only hours away from officially beginning their Cup defence, against Afghanistan in Bristol.

There may have been little time for reflection but Langer knows he and his team have come a long way.
