Inflated record is not a good look

One of the biggest concerns with using résumés in selection is the tendency for them to contain overblown and misleading statements, or worse, downright lies.

I am on the record over the years in my various self-help books and columns arguing that most candidates suffer from the opposite affliction and tend to undersell themselves. However, if there is one occupational group that has a reputation for overselling greater even than second-hand car salespeople, it must be politicians.

Which brings me to the NSW Premier, Gladys Berejiklian. A politician’s résumé is not confined to the typical word document or Linkedin profile the rest of us use, rather public statements and claims over the years, as well as their achievements and mistakes collectively form a type of résumé.

Unfortunately, false claims have been made about Ms Berejiklian's school........
