Clarkson firms with bookies to be next Dockers coach

3 1 0

Alastair Clarkson's odds of becoming the next permanent senior coach at Fremantle have firmed from $34 to just $7 with betting agencies in the space of six days.

The four-time premiership coach, contracted to Hawthorn until 2022, was househunting in Port Coogee, near Fremantle's new multi-purporse training facility, two weeks ago before attending the Brisbane v Richmond qualifying final at the Gabba, a source close to the Dockers told WAtoday.

A different source close to the Dockers toldWAtoday on Monday the club had made a massive offer to the Hawks' incumbent after Fremantle's embarrassing 91-point loss in the round 16 second derby.

Hawthorn denied their coach was in Perth last Wednesday while the Fremantle Football Club refused to comment at all on whether it had made Clarkson an offer, but on Thursday we published six legitimate reasons our source could be on the money about the 51-year-old coach heading west.

Sportsbet's Rich Hummerston said former Docker Justin Longmuir was still the best backed to coach Fremantle in 2020 but a flood of money had come for Clarkson.

"We had 'Clarko' at $34 on August 22 but since then a steady flow of cash," he said.
