Bigger bill for taxpayers is small price to pay to clean up political donations

There is an obvious and urgent case to be made on the need to fix Australia's political donations system.

The existing regime is fundamentally flawed on at least three fronts: the $13,800 threshold for disclosing the identity of political donors is too high, the time between the donation being made and the public finding out about it can often run up to two years, and the amount of public money spent on election campaigns is too low compared with many nations around the globe.
