Swindon Town see path without stars in promotion race |
Swindon Town had to deal with life without their stars against Fleetwood Town, and it said a lot in an interesting promotion battle.
For 40 minutes, it would have been difficult to tell that Swindon were down ten players at the Highbury Stadium. A performance of almost total dominance was finally rewarded when Ryan Tafazolli got on the end of a delicious cross from Darren Oldaker.
Jay Lynch had not been the busiest man in the world, but those in front of him certainly had been, working overtime to patch holes and prevent the dam from breaking. Gavin Kilkenny and Tom Nichols were especially pronounced in how they kept the ball and won it back high up the pitch. It was not really a contest.
Except that it was, as Fleetwood were able to take the initiative right at the end of the first half, as Tafazolli receiving treatment saw Town temporarily with ten, and The Cod Army surged and got their goal.
