Paying for drug harm

OPINION: In spite of everything we have tried so far the scourge of reprehensible traders in synthetic cannabis and other illegal substances continue to take the lives of the vulnerable and the foolish.

There would be very few school children today who don't know something of the dangers of smoking tobacco, drinking alcohol or using other, illegal, drugs. As parents and grandparents we know most youngsters will try some or all of these substances at some time in the formative years.

We also know most of them will come through that stage of their lives unharmed and a hopefully little wiser.

To help with that process we have regulations and laws to protect the young and the vulnerable from the worst of an ever growing list of dangerous, illegal substances, and to protect them from their own adventurous naivety and stupidity with legal substances like alcohol.
