Two things you need to know before we go any further: I adore children, and I am a surprisingly high-functioning adult human.

I love it when visiting kids run amok in my living room (crikey, Weet-Bix on the carpet dries into something a lot like concrete doesn't it? I'd forgotten). But I also run a tight ship in the office downstairs. That's where the bills get paid on time and filed chronologically into an appropriate lever arch files. It is possible I have more folders than shoes. (My shoes are also neatly organised, thanks for asking, and my lingerie drawer is a poem.)

This is by way of mitigating context for what I am about to say, which is this: sometimes I want kids to bugger off, and sometimes I'd like to behave like one.
