OPINION: It's been three months since I touched a drop of booze.

For those who haven't been following, I gave up alcohol on January 1 after realising I was relying on it too much to get through my days.

While I didn't pour vodka on my Weetbix – a popular misconception about what an alcohol problem might look like – I had serious questions about the role alcohol was playing in my life.

This was especially true when trying to get through the dreaded "witching hour", which all parents will know hits in the late afternoon and doesn't cease until those small humans of ours relent and shut finally shut their eyes to sleep each night.

Given it has been a pretty warm summer, the first few weeks were the "hardest" for breaking my habit of cracking open a bottle of wine once I'd deemed it socially acceptable to do so and sitting in the evening sun, numbing away the day.

But I found some great alternatives – 0.0 per cent beers have come a long way........
