Trump's Huawei U-turn?

OPINION: This is a story that keeps on giving. Six weeks ago, Huawei and China were treated as public enemies in the United States.

But, as so often happens with US President Donald Trump, it now appears as if things are starting to soften. Maybe.

Donald Trump and Xi Jinping agreed to a "ceasefire" in the US-China trade war when the pair met at a G20 summit in Osaka, Japan last weekend.

The news provides a lifeline to Huawei, that is arguably the company hardest hit by the fallout from the trade war.

Huawei chief executive Ren Zhenfei, suggested the US ban could cause his company a US$30b (NZ$45b) loss in revenue over the next four years if the ban continues.
