Tough times for Amazon

OPINION: It's been a rough week for Amazon. There have been three separate moves designed to threaten its dominance as the world's most profitable online shopping platform.

These come in the shape of eBay, Alibaba and the United States Department of Justice. And all within the space of three days.

Let's start with eBay.

Before Amazon became the force it is today, eBay was the dominant online shopping website. And while Amazon was still focused on flogging books, eBay was the platform used by thousands of professional sellers globally.

But eBay wasn't professional enough. Or, at least, it's vibe wasn't professional enough. Its approach was too passive, relying on its sellers to set their own delivery fees and then post their items directly to........
