I almost feel sorry for Huawei

OPINION:​ Huawei has been on the receiving end of the roughest week in tech I've ever seen.

It all started when Donald Trump upped the ante in his trade war with China. Last week, the United States president signed an executive order that declared a national emergency to protect US technologies from "foreign adversaries".

This essentially barred any US company from having any business relationships with the Chinese technology giant. Google, its most obvious US partner, was the first to declare that it would abide by the order.

The consequences of this alone are massive.

If Huawei remains an enemy of the state, its future smartphones will have to run an operating system that isn't Android. Which is a massive massive task. There is already a long list of technology heavyweights – Microsoft, Samsung, Nokia – that have tried and failed, to do this.
