Google's X has the wow factor

OPINION: Welcome to developer season. In the space of just over a month – running from May to early June – Apple, Google, Microsoft and Facebook will all host their annual developers' conferences.

And despite the polished keynotes, and the cult-like chanting from the attendees, they're actually pretty dull affairs.

We all already have a good idea of what's coming thanks to "leaks".

Apple is going to reveal the new features of macOS 10.15, iOS 13, watchOS 6 and tvOS13 – OK, that last one might be a bit interesting.

Microsoft was set to launch Windows Lite – a new OS to take on the Chromebook's low-cost dominance. But it now looks as if it's missed the deadlines and won't be revealed this month.

Facebook's F8 was intriguing, but mainly because it's been having a torrid time of it lately and witnessing how it navigates its fall from grace is box-office stuff.

Which brings us to Google. A basket case of a company. In a good way.

Its developer conference, Google I/O, represents the sensible........
