'Don't confuse PR with Trump'

OPINION: Journalist Malcolm Gladwell popularised the concept that you can become an expert in your field if you practise for 10,000 hours.

This theory, first formed by psychologist Anders Ericsson, came to mind last week when the Washington Post’s fact checkers claimed United States President Donald Trump had told 10,000 lies since his 2017 swearing-in.

Somehow this news was coupled with figures showing that for every US journalist there are more than six people working in public relations. In New Zealand it’s around three to one.

To me it suggested there are two sides at war: Journalists and PR people.
