Paul Berton: 10 answers to some ugly questions about Muslims, Christians, Christchurch and Nigeria

In the wake of the horrific massacre in Christchurch, New Zealand, last week, The Spectator received several queries, all asking a variation of this ugly question: "Why do the Muslims get front-page coverage so frequently?"

Each one followed up with another question: "Why don't the mainstream media run articles about Muslims killing Christians in Nigeria?"

That the queries were so alike might have been a coincidence, or the result of a single article — or several similar ones? Or a campaign?

Here are some answers:

1. Reports of violence against Christians in Northern Nigeria are likely true. But details are sketchy and news agencies to which The Spectator subscribes have not filed reports — likely because, unfortunately, they have nobody on the ground there to verify details.
