Sleeping Beauty, New Theatre, Cardiff
The New Theatre’s festive offering this year is the classic Sleeping Beauty, moved to a mythical Cardiff, and fronted by a familiar mix of television faces and local favourites.
With Gethin Jones playing the hero Prince Gethin of Gabalfa, Owain Wyn Evans appearing as the genial Spirit of Pantomime, and Cardiff institution Mike Doyle returning as Nurse Nellie, it is a production firmly pitched toward lovers of the genre.
The story follows the familiar Sleeping Beauty arc, given plenty of local flavour and updated with a healthy dose of chart-topping pop songs, many of which were warmly received by the audience.
