A man received a life-changing phone call to say he'd won over half a million pounds.

After many years of entering, Colin Stephenson was finally declared the winner of the Make Me a Winner competition, hosted by the radio station Planet Rock.

Mr Stephenson, a 59-year-old from Caldicot, had spent years dutifully caring for his elderly parents, who sadly passed away in 2020 and 2024, and has been unemployed for the past few years.

Moments before the call, Mr Stephenson was having a quiet afternoon, watching television.

He was alone in the house when he picked up the phone to presenter Gemma Atkinson, who informed him he had won the £551,000 prize.

He said: "I recognised the voice of the lady as soon as I answered the call.
