Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has said she was “surprised” by the departure of presenters Claudia Winkleman and Tess Daly.

The 65-year-old described their exit from the BBC One show as "sad," following their announcement in October via a joint Instagram statement.

Winkleman, 53, and Daly, 56, began co-hosting the programme together in 2014.

Their final appearance was on the show's pre-recorded Christmas Day special.

In an interview with Saga Magazine, the Strictly star reflected on their time together and the moment she heard the news.

She said: "Everyone was surprised.

"I share the changing room next to them, and they are full of giggles and laughter.........
