Getting around San Francisco is about to get more expensive |
The price for entering San Francisco is on the rise again, as several bridge tolls and BART fares are set to immediately increase for the new year on Thursday.
BART is adjusting its funding model as commuting behavior changes in the wake of the pandemic, while seven bridges, including the Bay Bridge, are tacking on an extra 50 cents per crossing. It’s the start of a plan that incrementally raises bridge tolls over the next five years.
The additional costs join other Bay Area transit agencies that recently implemented similar fare escalations. The San Francisco Municipal Transportation Agency raised its fares twice this year, first at the start of 2025 and then again in July. It was Muni’s first increase since 2019. The cost for adults, ages 19 to 64, went from $2.50 to $2.75 in January before rising to $2.85 in July.
