Bay Area braces for extreme cold weather as temperatures plunge

A blast of post-storm cold air is sweeping across the Bay Area, causing some of the coldest temperatures of the month — as inland valleys dip into the low 30s. 

After a day of gusty winds, scattered showers and small hail, forecasters say the real headline now is the temperature drop.

North Bay and East Bay valleys fell to lower 30s by early Friday morning. Temperatures Friday night into Saturday morning are expected to remain cold, generally in the low to mid-30s in those same inland areas, before a more noticeable warmup arrives late in the weekend.
