Costco's 49ers wine comes from a painfully ironic place

Costco is known for its stellar wine program, which includes one of the best wines in the world. It currently sells a 49ers-branded red wine that comes not from California, where you would expect, but from arguably the most ironic place in the world for a 49ers-branded wine: Kansas City, Missouri.

Some basic wine stats here: California is the fourth-largest wine producer in the world, and the largest in the United States, producing around 80% of the country’s wine, according to the Wine Institute. If you’re famous and want to make (or even appear to make) your own wine, you can definitely make it here. There’s no need to go to a double-landlocked state in the Midwest.

In a recent post in the r/49ers subreddit, which has 370,000 members, redditors were shocked to learn that a 49ers-branded wine would be made, of all places, in the home of the Chiefs, who beat the 49ers in........
