It’s been a banner year for San Francisco real estate. The uptick in luxury sales particularly shows a strong seller’s market, thanks largely to wealth generated by the city’s burgeoning AI technologies. “The SF market became crazy hot this fall selling season, accelerating from 25 mph to 100 mph almost overnight - because of the AI startup boom that is exploding here,” Patrick Carlisle, Compass chief market analyst, told SFGATE in an email. “... It is certainly one of the hottest markets in the country, and the luxury market is leading the way. October saw the highest number of $5m sales since the peak of the pandemic boom. November saw the highest month-of-November number of sales ever,” he wrote.
Still, that doesn’t mean every listing sells, and this year, luxury condos and co-ops — sectors of the market that have not been as hot as single-family homes this year — top the list of the city’s most expensive unsold homes.
