A Bay Area mayor is facing calls to resign after sharing social media posts that some groups deemed antisemitic.

The Bay Area-based Jewish Community Relations Council is calling for the resignation of Richmond Mayor Eduardo Martinez, accusing him of engaging in a pattern of antisemitic conduct in his recent social media activity.

On Thursday, the council shared screenshots of multiple LinkedIn posts that Martinez reposted, writing that they appeared to blame Jews for the Dec. 14 mass shooting at a Hanukkah celebration in Bondi Beach, Australia. The organization described the rhetoric as “dangerous, offensive, and unacceptable from any public official.” 

The Jewish Community Relations Council said it views the LinkedIn posts as part of a broader pattern. In its statement, the group pointed to Martinez’s appearance on Aug. 29 at the second annual People’s Conference for Palestine in Detroit, where he allegedly compared himself to Hamas.
