A group of snowmobilers triggered an avalanche in a recreation area north of Yosemite National Park, burying one person, search and rescue teams said.
Around 11 a.m. Saturday, the Mono County Sheriff’s Office search and rescue team received a call for a D3 avalanche near Latopie Lake. A D3 avalanche is considered “very large,” enough to wipe out a house and create a debris field 10 football fields long. The group of seven snowmobilers were riding in the Bridgeport Winter Recreation Area off Highway 108 when they “triggered” the........
