Tech entrepreneur acquires Tahoe's oldest waterfront bar

The boathouse on the pier was built around 1875, making Chambers Landing the oldest waterfront bar in Lake Tahoe.

A tech entrepreneur and investor from San Francisco has acquired Tahoe’s oldest waterfront bar, Chambers Landing, on the west shore.

Chris Fanini, best known as a co-founder of Weebly, was an investor in a group that acquired Chambers Landing in 2023 and took over the restaurant and bar from its previous management, Rick Brown. The property is still owned by an organization made up of Chambers Landing homeowners.

Then, this past spring, before Chambers opened for the season, Fanini took over the restaurant entirely, folding Chambers Landing into a new company called Anidel Hospitality Group. The company includes two other businesses that Fanini recently purchased in Sonoma.

“The hospitality company is really small and just formed around reviving really unique historic properties that have been really special and dear, especially to Chris’ heart,” Francesca Huson, Anidel’s vice president of operations, told SFGATE in a phone interview this week.

Fanini, 39, lives in San Francisco but is originally from Pennsylvania. When he first moved to San Francisco in the early days of Weebly, around 2006 or 2007, he’d visit Lake Tahoe and would always go to Chambers Landing, Huson said.

“It’s [been] one of his favorite places for a large part of his adult life,” Huson said. “And [Chambers Landing] is just a really, really special place where he likes to spend time.”

With its on-the-water location, Chambers Landing is a favorite summertime destination for locals and visitors alike.
