K-Pop stans might obsess over Dryamond Green after Blackpink shoutout

Many musicians have shouted out Golden State Warriors stars, particularly Steph Curry, since the Bay Area’s team became a dynasty. But a song released on Friday from one of the world’s biggest musical acts does not reference Curry but Draymond Green.

Blackpink, a four-woman K-pop supergroup that hasn’t released a full album since 2022, dropped a five-song EP on Friday called “Deadline.” The third song is a catchy tune titled “Me and My” and is generally about the girl group hitting the town and running it together. In the second verse, Lisa alludes to the Warriors forward as a way to celebrate her high-caliber pals.

“Just me and my day ones, pretty girls walkin’. Golden like we Draymond, they pay us for a walk-in,” Lisa sings.

Lisa makes another basketball reference earlier: “Courtside on the call, we can touch the ball, that’s how we move.” But there are no other references to any athlete in the five-song EP.

Pitchfork called Blackpink “the biggest K-pop group in the world” in a Friday new music roundup, highlighting how the group has raised its profile since its last album, “Born Pink,” dropped in 2022. Lisa was an actor in Season 3 of “The White Lotus” on HBO. Rosé joined Bruno Mars for the hit single “APT,” which was nominated for multiple Grammy Awards this year. YouTube recently announced that Blackpink became the first official artist channel to hit 100 million subscribers on its platform.

Green was previously referenced in another song — “Summer Sixteen” by Drake — released a decade ago where the rapper compared himself and his bodyguard Chubbs to Curry and Green. That reference was a bit more expected, given Drake’s well-known sports affinity and chummy relationship with the Warriors generally, Curry in particular.
