Trying new recipe for family Christmas a half-baked idea

You would think after several such adventures over the years, I would know better than to try a new, untried recipe for company let alone a large gathering.

Guess I am a slow learner.

You would think after several such adventures over the years, I would know better than to try a new, untried recipe for company let alone a large gathering.

I am not a huge fan of baked beans so really don’t have a good sense of what they should taste like. For some unfathomable reason I decided I would make baked beans, from scratch, for this year’s DeJonghe family Christmas gathering.

I know many people love them and I assumed those who do would assuredly prefer authentic Southern-style baked beans so I got pinto beans, navy beans and cannellini beans and all the specialized, appropriate ingredients to make them.

I knew it would be a day long project.  I followed the instructions from boiling the beans for one minute, letting stand for an hour, simmering for another hour and finally to drain. I gathered up all the other ingredients and once beans were ready I began the........
