Lots of clichés but few solutions when disaster strikes
To make sure this never happens again is a common response these days.
After every disastrous happening, whether it’s a school shooting, weather crisis, forest fire, mass killing, abuse of power, train derailment or airplane crash, etc. the powers-that-be send thoughts and prayers and promise to do everything they can so this never happens again.
The thoughts and prayers have limited comfort value when a child is gunned down in what should be the second safest place in their life; a wife is brutally beaten, again; everything you own is burned to the ground or washed away; a peaceful country is invaded; a place of worship is vandalized.
I am pretty sure Ukrainians, Israelis, Palestinians and anyone else living in areas of conflict are not feeling protected, fed, clothed, sheltered, medically cared for or rescued by platitudes or litanies.
All of these horrors will happen again because we........
